Harold Homer Hoecker

Obituary

Harold Homer Hoecker, 100, of McHenry, MD, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center, Oakland, MD.

Born August 28, 1916, in Truesdale, MO and growing up in Warrenton, MO, he was the son of the late William and Josephine (Lantow) Hoecker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lee (Berry) Hoecker, whom he married on December 24, 1941; two brothers and two sisters.

Harold and Frances lived in McHenry for 38 years as full-time residents. Harold and his family moved from Illinois in 1948 to work at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD for 30 years as Agro-Economist, helping farmers and county ag's market farm produce. Two of his projects lasted long after his retirement, marketing of sweet potatoes and judging fruits and vegetables at the Garrett County Fair.

He was a member of McHenry United Methodist Church and enjoyed growing roses and giving them away.

He is survived by one son, Donald Lee Hoecker, Friendsville, MD.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, McHenry (Accident), on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the McHenry United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jonathan Moon officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.

Harold was such a good man. Everytime he would call he would always brighten my day Prayers for the family
